We want our transit order

Van Quest: The 2022 Transit Orders

For people that placed 2022 Transit orders (like me), there’s a new ripple of concern. I am like many who made the decision to go with the Ford Transit, who went to a dealer and placed a specific order. Folks that do this go in with their eyes open, trusting and learning. And determined. Nobody is giving up, but there are new factors and confusion and possibly delays. This is what I see from trying to push my order along, and from the rich exchange of info at the Ford Transit Forum.

We want our transit ordersFord has never been particularly forthright and consistent on the order process and associated expectations. After all, they are car sales folks. When you order, you know there will be a wait but you more specifically get what you want. Theoretically and generally that’s okay. But lately, there’s been signs that the precious chips are getting doled out to the likes of Amazon and other big fleet buyers. Knomad wannabes (folks that want to build/covert a camper van) have a hard time competing with this and it doesn’t seem fair. There is speculation that little-guy Transit orders might slip a year, and some dealers are price gouging without Ford awareness. Maybe this is early fallout from some new world war. Brace yourself.

Some people are angry and suggesting to walk away from their orders. But for the same reasons I chose the 2022 Transit in the first place, I am staying the course. I needed a little time to get clarity on my order anyway. After you place an order, you can tweak it up until the build date is set, which you learn by email from Ford.

Working Through Electrical System Questions

electrical plan for Ford Transit ordersSo, now I’ll have time to work through details of my electrical system. This basic diagram includes solar as an input, but I think I might be able to get by without it. I am ordering the “top of the line” electrical options Ford offers and I’m hoping to make best use of them. Since my electrical needs are not too demanding, maybe it’s possible to optimize the other two sources and avoid solar panels. I’d like the stealth of not having panels on the roof. To be determined.
